Investments in 2014

1. Installation of heat utilization unit for boiler VKSM 60/1 in DHP Istok

The project consists from procurement and installation of heat utilization unit for operation on natural gas for the hot water boiler VKSM 60/1 (69 MW) in DHP Istok. This heat utilization unit is mounted on the vertical part of the exhaust gas channel from the boiler VKSM 60/1. One of the main objectives from this project was to increase the boiler efficiency through utilizing of the heat energy from exhaust gases.

All activities for the project were started in April 2014 and completed in December 2014. Production of Heat Balkan Energy DOOEL Skopje was leading this project to its full implementation.

For full implementation of this project our company concluded contract with company Dimce Banjarot – Prilep, for production and complete installation of the new utilization unit.

The new heat utilization unit has a maximum capacity of 3292 kW and provides heating of inlet water for the boiler forΔt = 2 º C (depends from the boiler load) and directly contributes for increasing of the boiler efficiency.

The implementation of this project is from major importance for the process of heat production by improvement of the boiler efficiency, which leads to fuel savings and positive environmental impact through reduction of the temperature of the flue gases, which are emitted in the atmosphere.

2. Modernization of the burner management system for boilers VKSM40 in DHP Istok

The project consists of procurement and replacement of the entire existing automation equipment for burner management for the burners type PEABODY ARP-23. The old equipment for starting, management of the burners output and safety monitoring of the burners from the three hot water boilers type VKSM 40 were replaced with the modern equipment. The total capacity of those 3 boilers is 138 MW.

The replacement of this automation equipment was necessary in order to perform automatic alteration of the boiler load, instead of the previous manual operation. Also, the existing automation equipment which was in use at that moment, was considered as old technology for which spare parts were not available on the market.

All activities for this project were started in April 2014 and were completed in December 2014. Our company, Production of Heat Balkan Energy DOOEL Skopje was leading this project to its full implementation.

For this project Production of Heat Balkan Energy DOOEL Skopje decided to procure and install equipment from leading companies in this field: Variable frequency driver (manufacturer Danfoss – Denmark), Electro motors (manufacturer ATB – Serbia), Burner management system (manufacturer SAACKE – Germany).

The implementation of this project is from major importance for the process of heat production:

  • Significant reduction of the possibility for defect occurrence in the automation equipment, since this equipment is new, thus increased reliability of the boilers.
  • Automatic (work-load) of the boilers, better performance and efficiency;
  • Improved burner management system software, which will be used for further upgrades on the boiler (integration of the burner management system in SCADA.)
  • Reliable availability of spare parts even in extreme cases of malfunction, hence higher reliability in the process of production of heat energy;

3. Modernization of 10 kV electrical switch gear and equipment in DHP Istok

The project considers complete reconstruction of the 10kV switch gears in DHP Istok. Project includes procurement of project documentation, new equipment, installation and commissioning. The objective of the project was to replace the old MV (middle voltage) switch gear which required high maintenance, with a new one which will improve the reliable operation of the DHP Istok.

Another important issue was the availability of spare parts for the MV switch gear. The replaced equipment was used longer than thirty years and the maintenance costs were very high. Furthermore, it was difficult to obtain the spare parts from the original equipment manufacturer or its successor companies.

The implementation of the project results in improved operation of the DHP Istok due to the increased functionality of the new equipment; lower maintenance costs and increased safety of the system. The project increased the reliability of the DHP, as many processes are directly affected by its continuous and uninterrupted operation.

All activities for this project were started in April 2014 and completed in September 2014, Production of Heat Balkan Energy DOOEL Skopje was leading this project to its full implementation.

For this project Production of Heat Balkan Energy DOOEL Skopje decide to procure and install equipment from leading companies in this field: 10 kV switchgears (manufacturer Schneider Electric – France), activities for full implementation of this project were performed by Macedonian company (TimelProekt – Skopje).

The installation of new switchgear provides conditions for revising the switchboard arrangement and for considering possible additional capacity benefits.

The implementation of the project was from major importance for the DHP which provided:

  • More reliable and improved operation;
  • Possibility for implementation of new functions and easier equipment manipulation (implementation in SCADA);
  • Lower maintenance costs;
  • Availability of spare parts;
  • Improved safety of system.
